Cruz Conde

The Commander of the Army Don Rafael Cruz Conde founded "Bodegas Cruz Conde" in 1902, with the aim of producing, ageing and marketing the best wines of the Montilla-Moriles area: Generosos, whites, Pedro Ximenez and Brandies. The intense winemaking activity led to the creation of one of the most important wineries in the area, equipped with a large infrastructure. The good progress of the activity made possible the construction of an underground cellar made up of 6 vaulted-roofed cellars and as many others of exceptional architecture.

Facilities

With a surface area of more than 14,000 m², the winery is located in the heart of the town of Montilla. The underground ageing cellar "El Sótano" is an example of excellent architecture and unique in the Montilla-Moriles area, with 8,000 casks (barrels) located in the most appropriate places for the ageing of wine. There are also new buildings with spaces for the production, treatment and ageing of wines.

Our facilities also house the La Cordobesa Distillery, equipped with copper stills dating from the first half of the 20th century, where we continue to distil using traditional methods.

Vineyards

The vineyards are mainly made up of the "Pedro Ximénez" grape variety, which accounts for 90% of the grape production within the framework of the Denomination. The high temperatures of the area give the grapes a high sugar content (244 grams per litre of must) and therefore a natural alcohol content (over 14.5º after fermentation).
