Finca El Chaconero or "Las Tierras del Charco de Enero". The first documents that refer to the cultivation of crops on our estate date back to the 16th century.
It is said that it rained so much between the months of September and October that our land remained dammed until January, hence the name "Las Tierras del Charco de Enero".
The Finca El Chaconero is located in the district of Las Virtudes, next to the Virgen de las Virtudes Sanctuary, to the west of Villena; called "Las Quebradas" by the oldest people in the area due to its edaphology, the subsoil strata are not horizontal but oblique, which results in a large number of small plots with totally different soils. On the same estate we can find gravel, sandy-loamy and totally sandy soils.
Finca El Chaconero is considered ZEPA (Special Protection Area for Birds) due to its environmental importance, it is a protected area included in the Natura 2000 Network of the European Union.
The Lagunas de Villena is 2 km away, a Protected Natural Area that allows the observation of different species throughout the year, such as Little Ringed Plovers, Black-winged Stilts, Vultures, Grey Shrikes, Marsh Terns, Black Wheatears and Bee-eaters.
