The care of the vineyard is fundamental for Viña Mambrilla. The winery owns sixty hectares of vineyards located in the municipality of Mambrilla de Castrejón. The grape variety used is Tinta del País. The different plots are located between 790 and 850 metres above sea level. The orientation of the plots is South - Southeast, which gives them protection from the thermal contrasts typical of the Ribera del Duero.
The youngest vineyard plots are between 15 and 25 years old, while the oldest vineyard plots are 80 and 100 years old, with a low production but of great quality, dedicated to the production of the most exclusive wines, but also to the creation of new vineyard plots.
New plots of vines have been planted from the oldest vineyards of the Tinta del País variety by means of grafting, thus maintaining the family vineyard at the origin.
Both this practice and the routine care of the vineyard are carried out by the owners of the winery. The care of the vines is practically natural, only sulphur is used as a preventive measure against possible pests. Two pruning operations are carried out, dry pruning around the month of January and green pruning around the month of May. The grapes are harvested by hand and the bunches to be used in the winemaking process are previously selected in the vineyard.
