RAÚL PÉREZ AND RODRIGO MÉNDEZ IN RIBEIRA SACRA
Both winemakers are two of the most renowned Spanish figures in Spain and abroad. Castro Candaz is their joint project in Ribeira Sacra with which they have won over their many followers.
Raúl Pérez comes from the Bierzo region, while Rodrigo Méndez has his family and professional ties in Meaño (Pontevedra). These two friends come from families dedicated to the cultivation and production of wines, and they are the ones in charge of raising them to an international level.
Fate brought their paths together to create a symbiosis of knowledge that has resulted in world-class references such as the famous Sketch.
Raúl and Rodrigo have a particular way of understanding wine. Their priority is not the winery, but the vineyard. For this reason, they work on a multitude of projects, both their own and in collaboration, taking as their starting point only the vineyards where they find the grapes they like best, such as this one in Castro Candaz.
The origin of these vineyards is in the Quiroga-Bibei sub-region of Lugo, from native grapes such as Mencía and Godello, resulting in a series of wines with a markedly Burgundian flavour. Given the treacherous conditions of the terrain, it is necessary to use heroic viticulture to work these vineyards.
