In 1941, Don José Sánchez-Cerezo acquired the Casa Castillo estate for the exploitation of rosemary from the mountain. The estate was the site of a winery built by the French in 1870.
In 1985, the second generation of the family (Nemesio and his son José Mª Vicente) began a new project with the restructuring of the vineyard and the introduction of new varieties. In 1991, the winery building was renovated, respecting the original structure, and the first wine was made. Our first wine was launched on the market in 1993 as "Casa Castillo Crianza 1991". Nowadays José Mª Vicente is in charge of the Casa Castillo Wine Estate.
La Propiedad Vitícola Casa Castillo is located on the high plateau of Jumilla. Its lands occupy the shady slopes of the Sierra del Molar mountain range, rising up to an altitude of 760 metres above sea level. The estate covers a total surface area of 402 hectares, of which only 174 hectares are dedicated to vineyards, the rest being devoted to the cultivation of almond and olive trees and the conservation of woodland and pine forests. The autochthonous variety, Monastrell, occupies a large part of the vineyard followed by Syrah, Garnacha and Cabernet Sauvignon.
