In 1879 the Real de Asúa brothers arrived in Haro to begin one of the longest-running stories in the world of wine. What began as a trip for health reasons led to the creation of the Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España (C.V.N.E.), in the emblematic Barrio de la Estación.

This was the birth of a family winery that has grown through five generations and today is still in the hands of the same family, producing quality, artisanal and traditional wines that are now on the tables of more than 90 countries.

Leader in the sector in Spain, and winner of the most prestigious awards in the world of wine, such as those awarded by Wine Spectator or Wine Advocate throughout its history, CVNE has not stopped growing with the aim of creating special wines and discovering the potential in the great vineyards in the surrounding area. The group currently has seven wineries in the country's main wine regions: CVNE, Imperial, Viña Real and Viñedos del Contino in Rioja, Roger Goulart in Penedés, Bela in Ribera del Duero and Virgen del Galir in Valdeorras.

These wineries produce a wide variety of wines, the best wines of each region where tradition and modernity are combined, wines that are safe values and that enjoy a special charisma, among which we find: Imperial, the winery's flagship and voted Best Wine in the World in 2013 by the American magazine Wine Spectator, the first Spanish wine to achieve this; the oldest white wine in Spain, Monopole; the white Corona 1939 and the red Viña Real 1959 with 100 Parker points; Contino, the first Single Vineyard or Roger Goulart, a pioneer in the production of sparkling wines by the Traditional Method in Spain since 1882.

CVNE has not ceased to evolve, grow and innovate both in its wines and in the way it makes them throughout its more than 140 years of history. It is a winery that has grown with a deep respect for tradition and, at the same time, has been able to incorporate innovation into its processes and has committed itself to its environment, to viticulture that respects the environment and to excellence in the quality of its wines.

To this great winemaking project must be added Davalillo Castle, an icon of La Rioja. This impressive monument, recognised beyond our borders and whose construction dates back to the 13th century, has suffered great deterioration over the centuries and the CVNE family wants to restore its splendour and give it the life it once had.
