He came to Spain in 2004 to work with Telmo Rodríguez. Discovering other areas and another language was motivating for him, but the desire to make his own wine led him to start out on his own.
Since 2009 he has been making wine in the D.O. Arlanza, specifically in the town of Covarrubias, located between Burgos and Aranda de Duero. Once he got to know the region he was convinced that the area was ideal for making the wines he liked. That is, wines from high, old vines, which provide power but at the same time freshness. In short, wines that, in his opinion, can only be made in a few places.
In La Rioja he makes three wines in a traditional way and in small productions. He does not have his own vineyards and works with growers who provide him with Tempranillo and the best Gracianos from the Rioja Baja, specifically in the village of Aldeanueva de Ebro. He also vinifies Garnacha grapes from Cárdenas, in the Rioja Alta.
Olivier Rivière also advises two wineries, Laderas de Montejurra in Navarre and Bodegas Lacus, located in the Rioja Baja.
