Viñedos y Bodegas García Figuero extends its 80 hectares of vineyards in the municipality of La Horra, a third of which are old vines over 60 years old.
he Tempranillo clone in the vineyards of the García Figuero family comes from pre-phylloxera vines, thanks to the arrival of the French in 1908. After the terrible phylloxera plague, they dedicated their efforts to replant the vineyards in La horra with the best vines. Later, the García Figuero family continued planting vineyards with the same system. Later, the 21 plots of old vines over 60 years old that gave the best grapes were selected.
The area has a "continentalised" climate, with strong contrasts between summer and winter, soils dominated by red clay shale, with varying amounts of silt, sand and gravel, and a wide variety of plant species. A municipality with a surface area of 3,000 hectares, of which a third is vineyards, the rest cereals and 500 hectares of forest of pines, holm oaks and oaks.
The combination of nature, soil and climate are fundamental in the development of the plant and the ripening of the grapes, resulting in a fine wine.
